Most of the urban poor live in informal and low-income settlements which are prone to substandard living conditions. The informal and low-income settlements are characterized by acute problems of infrastructure in the form of poor housing, inadequate availability of drinking water, sanitation, poor drainage and pollution. Considering the above situation, the Government of Bangladesh has undertaken the implementation of Low-Income Community Housing Support Project (LICHSP) since 2016 co-funded with the World Bank. LICHSP is a pilot project to improve the urban settlements involving the community of the settlements selected under the project. An important component of the project is to ensure community participation in all stages of project implementation. The project is expected to have an impact on urban livelihood improvement in Bangladesh targeting the settlements of the low-Income group of the population.
